In 1998 the book "Pahit manis" was published by uitgeverij Glaswerk in Leerdam, the Netherlands.

Pahit Manis means bitter sweet and gives an impression of the world in which Van den Ham finds his inspiration and where he lives and works part of the year.

The book is published in four languages in portrait format, measuring 244 x 297 mm, is bound in linen and has a dust cover. The book comprises 128 pages and contains about 60 colour illustrations, apart from photo's of a great number of objects, some pictures from Indonesia. It also contains a number of impressions by Van den Ham about the daily and less daily life in Indonesia.
